More than a Diversion: 10x10

This is something Richard Lowenberg tuned me in to...

You can view it as a diversion, but it's more than that. It gives us a means of taking a meta-perspective on the news and media of the moment. It's a creative approach... combining images and words that are washing in upon us. Take a look.

Blogging and Blogger Corps

My oblique spin on a recent list discussion....

Thoughts on blogging

When one blogs, one always blogs somewhere...

So (bear with me as I continue to restate the obvious, and correct me when I mis-state it) one generally blogs within a community of bloggers at some blog site...

Now blogging tools have spread so that practically any site can incorporate them...

Some sites are all about the blogging activity, but others want the blogging to be the generation of a portion of content, lets say in a puposive member community (Such as AFCN,or RTC)...

If one is a member of several communities one often wants to share one's words and thoughts in each of the several...

Identity Protection and the Hazards of the Information Age

Recent (and perennial) discussion has touched upon the ethics of network service and content providers that require a significant amount of personal information (and what they do with it), along with reasons some of us may not want to disclose such information, or that we should be recommending the development of community oriented/owned network infrastuctures that take this as a starting point.

Concerns for protecting one's identity (and personal privacy) are likely to grow, so there will be an increasing demand for services or technologies that offer some degree/promise of protection.

CyberTimes Navigator

"Navigator is the home page used by the newsroom of The New York Times for forays into the Web. Its primary intent is to give reporters and editors new to the Web a solid starting point for a wide range of journalistic functions without forcing all of them to spend time wandering around blindly to find a useful set of links of their own. Its secondary purpose is to show people that there's still a lot of fun and useful stuff going on out there."

Variety of Forms in Community Networking

Sometimes the question of what defines Community Networking arises.

It would be good for us to revisit the topic, ennumerating forms and debating their classification, maintaining attention to our social goals and rediscovering them. But, I'd like to start the topic from the perspective of the variety of forms that are possible and practiced through innovations in technology and human organization. Often, it doesnt require a major leap in the technology available, but rather in openness to different ways of doing, and access to the informative "how" and provision of means without significant barrier to entry. Sometimes the new ways of doing things emerge through the existence of a technology that wasnt even a part of the original concept.

I'm testing how some blogging tools work with our Drupal based CMS.

If you have a user account on the AFCN site, you can use ::w.bloggar:: to submit your blogs.

You can download ::w.bloggar:: here.
